Eustace Paul Ziegler I obtained this Ziegler painting many years ago from Pennsylvania. It came from the estate of an Alaska missionary, a contemporary of Ziegler's. The estate also had an earlier Ziegler that had, curiously, written on the back, "Red Dragon Library". I don't know if that one, or this one, maybe used to hang in the Red Dragon in Cordova? At any rate it's a nice historic painting from when Ziegler still lived in Alaska, as opposed to his later pot boilers, as he himself referred to his later career in letters to his friend Gilbert Thompson. Horse Creek Mary, an Ahtena Indian who lived on the Chitina Trail, was a favorite subject of Ziegler’s. Here he presents her as madonna and child. For more info on Horse Creek Mary see Katherine Wilson’s book Copper-tints. Sight is 16-1/2 inches x 10 inches. In a Thanhardt Burger frame. I sent it off to the WCCFA in 1992 for restoration. Price is $19,500. To order this item email dick@AlaskaWanted.com Also available is a really early Ziegler painting from when he was just a lad. |
