Tlingit Indians in front of Jack's Saloon in Juneau. Cabinet card circa 1887 by George M. Weister. "Jack's" is Jack Timmins' saloon. He was also editor of the Alaska Searchlight newspaper, which may have been printed in this building. He is standing in the doorway of the Winter & Brown cabinet card (NOT included, here only for the information), wearing the white hat. Ironic that the murderer was wearing a white hat. Very good condition and a very scarce image. Price: $750 plus $7 shipping/insurance to the USA. [shelf locator: Tlingit Indians ephemera album] To order this item email dick@AlaskaWanted.com |

Many of our contemporary southeast Alaska Native carvers studied under master carver Ed Kasko. |
Alaska
Magazine reported his passing in their "End of the Trail" column in their August 1995 issue: "KASKO, ED 72, a noted Tlingit woodcarver, and silversmith, died Jan. 20 (1995) in Anchorage. His specialty was mask-making, but he also carved totems, helping to carve the 132-foot pole displayed at Expo '70 in Japan. Kasko was a traditional headman and clan-appointed caretaker of the Killer Whale clan house in Klukwan." |
